For over six decades, Kenn’s Transmission has been Marshalltown’s trusted name in transmission repair and maintenance. Founded in 1958 by DJ’s grandfather, this family-owned business has been passed down through generations, with DJ now fully taking the reins. Having grown up in the shop and learned from both his grandfather and father, DJ continues the tradition of expert craftsmanship, customer-first service, and unmatched technical skill.

At Kenn’s Transmission, we specialize in all things transmission. While other shops may dabble in a bit of everything, we focus solely on transmissions, making us the go-to experts in the area. DJ was so kind and helpful to us today. Our van crapped out on a road trip. He looked at it and gave us the bad news the transmission was shot. He let us hang out while we figured out what to do and helped us get a guy to take our dead van once we got something in town. I really appreciate his kindness

We scheduled our Chrysler Van for a transmission service, and it turned out to be a bit more than just a service job. We had cooler lines that were leaking, they called to tell us, we approved and it was still done on time. I feel much better knowing that it is in tip top shape now. Thanks for doing a great job. I will definitely be back for other vehicles and would recommend them highly.

Where do I leave my keys when dropping off my vehicle after hours?

Please use our drop box located next to the front door for a convenient and secure key drop-off.

What kind of warranty do you provide on your services?

We offer a standard warranty of 12 months or 12,000 miles. Additionally, we have a range of other warranty options available to suit your needs.

How often should I change my transmission fluid?

Most vehicles need transmission fluid replaced every 30,000–60,000 miles, but this varies by manufacturer, driving style, and towing/hauling habits. We can check your fluid condition during your visit.

What’s the difference between a transmission repair, rebuild, and replacement?

Repair: Fixing or replacing only the damaged components.
Rebuild: Disassembling the transmission, replacing worn or failed parts, and reassembling it to factory specifications.
Replacement: Installing a new, remanufactured, or used transmission when repairs aren’t possible or cost‑effective.

How do I know if my transmission needs repair?

Common signs include slipping gears, delayed shifting, grinding noises, fluid leaks, a burning smell, or the check‑engine light turning on. If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s best to have the transmission inspected quickly to prevent further damage.
